Drop In
Sunday Scoop #43 - This week, I share with you the sheer power of commitment that I've come to appreciate.
Hey friends,
This week has been a true test of commitment-juggling.
With ASTRA and A2 Examinations coming up next week, I had quite the time learning how to balance between completing several Past Papers a day, managing ASTRA sales, and then creating ANKI Decks for my Past Paper mistakes (extremely handy!).
One of the things I’ve come to appreciate is the sheer power of committing to something once you’ve put your mind to it (in my case, slot it into my calendar).
Here is a quick write-up by yet again, Seth Godin.
One of the most difficult things to do in skateboarding is to learn to ‘drop in’. This is the commitment at the top of the ramp. One moment, you’re standing still, at the abyss, and the next you’re committed, fully engaged with gravity.
The worse thing you can do is half.
When you sort of commit, you’re likely to fall.
The rule is pretty simple: If you’re going to bother going skateboarding, then you’ve already decided. In this moment, you’re not making a new decision. You’re simply acting on what you said you wanted to do in the first place.
Decide once. It’s fine to opt-out. But once you decide, there’s no upside in re-litigating your decision, particularly when it leads to needless risk and wasted effort.
And of course, you may have realized all the moments in our lives where our hesitation to drop in is precisely at the heart of the challenge.
[Skateboarding details here. Worth noting that “dropping in” while surfing is a very different thing, and the opposite rules apply.]
I know this isn’t exactly writing my own newsletter but I promise to get back on it after A2 is over.
In the meantime, I intend to continue my commitment to providing value in your inbox every Sunday, or at least before Monday sunrise.
With that, best of luck for A-Levels Examinations for those of you taking it. Let’s have a productive week ahead.
