🎤 Would You Say It To Your Sister?
Sunday Scoop #21 - Among all the people that you've interacted with today, I bet I know who you spent the most time with - you. And yet, how often do we monitor the things we tell ourselves?
Hey friends,
The video I’m about to show you is 6 minutes and 20 seconds long.
6 minutes and 20 seconds. That’s shorter than a standard game of Among Us. Probably shorter than a 'quick' Twitter scroll too, at least for me.
I hope you can spare 6 minutes and 20 seconds of your week to watch this video by Jay Shetty, which had me close to tears towards the end and I’ve been waiting to share it with you ever since I came across it early last week.
Beautiful.
You know how we instinctively distance ourselves from 'negative' people? Those who constantly whine, complain and generally mess with our vibe. We've all been taught to keep these people at arm's length, lest their negativity start to get to us.
Now, think about how we are almost never without the company of our thoughts. We spend 24/7 with ourselves, listening to the voices in our heads. Yet, how often do we monitor the things we tell ourselves?
What is the point of keeping 'negative' people at bay, just to subject yourself to a constant soundtrack of self-criticism playing in the background?
This week, try being more mindful of what you tell yourself and the thoughts we all so often unwittingly internalize. In the long run, what you tell yourself truly do matter more than you dare to admit or care to realize.
We can all stand to benefit from a time-to-time check in on our mental well being. I came across this video when I was browsing through my friend, Sneha's newly launched mental health blog, aptly named 'Perfectly Imperfect'.
In her blog, she shares her experience and struggles with mental health and how she dealt with them. More importantly, this blog serves to remind others that they are not alone in their struggles and aims to build a strong, supportive community that battles the stigma around mental health. This is a blog about prioritizing mental health, self-love and rediscovering ourselves.
Check out the blog if this seems up your street!
With that said, I hope that the thoughts we internalize would add some value to your life in some shape, way, or form.
Have a great week ahead and see you in the next issue of Sunday Scoop!

📖 Audiobook - I have been absolutely blazing through Ernest Kline’s Ready Player One. I’ve neither read the book nor watched the movie but Wil Wheaton’s narration is top notch and makes every single scene in the book come alive.
I have about 2.5 hours left in the 15-hour audiobook and as much as I want to stretch the book out and savor it longer, I'll probably fail to resist the temptation of plugging in my headphones and finishing the book right after I publish this newsletter. Oh well, what can a man do.

Challenge
This week, be extra mindful of what you tell yourself.
It is okay if you catch yourself in a negative thought cycle. Don't beat yourself up. Just breathe and imagine telling someone you love what you just told yourself.
If it isn’t something you can stomach, change the narrative.
