🎭 Tough Through The Toil
Sunday Scoop #35 - An insight I picked up over a dinner conversation that'll hopefully help you push through the next 2 weeks.
Hey friends,
I’m going to keep this short and sweet because most of you will be starting your Trials examination tomorrow.
As I was having my dinner about an hour ago, I told my friends that I’m planning to write and send out this week’s newsletter issue.
To my surprise, most of them started asking me if I was serious.
And when they found out that I was, they suggested that I call it quits for a week or two for the sake of trials.
And that got me thinking, should I be taking their suggestion? It would be easier, wouldn’t it? An extra hour and a half would be great to get another past year paper in before the Trials or catch a bit more sleep after the draining day of revisions.
Then, I came across a quote in my Readwise account. I modified it slightly to fit my current situation.
If you do what’s important albeit with toil, the toil passes but the good remains; if you do what’s easy albeit with pleasure, the pleasure passes but the consequence remains.
If I were to take the easy way out and not write this issue, the extra hour of free time would feel absolutely amazing, for tonight. I may be able to do some extra practice questions or unwind a little.
Nevertheless, I would most definitely regret it later on because I can never earn back the 35-week writing streak I’m currently on.
If I tough through the toil and fight that instinct to tap out, I may have to push myself a little harder tonight to earn back the time I invested on this issue. However, I get to look back months later and be satisfied knowing I’ve kept up with this streak for an entire year.
📝 For Trials
If you’re a KY student, apply this for your upcoming Trials. Even if you’re not, you most definitely have a finals or a presentation (or even a Leg Day Workout!) coming up soon that you feel like you just CBA.
When you face that instinct to tap out, remember the quote.
If you do what’s important albeit with toil, the toil passes but the good remains; if you do what’s easy albeit with pleasure, the pleasure passes but the consequence remains.
Yes, the next 2 weeks will be tough.
Yes, it is most definitely draining.
But no, you cannot take the easy way out.
You have to fight that instinct to reach for your phone and scroll Instagram for ‘5 minutes’. You have to fight the desire to take the path of least resistance.
The 2 weeks will pass soon enough and regardless of the results, you can look back knowing you gave it every last ounce of effort.
Tough through the toil.
Let’s get to work.
