đ Average Speed vs Maximum Speed
Sunday Scoop #25 - In this issue, I try incredibly hard to avoid the cliché New Year content and share James Clear's concept that I found particularly insightful.
Hey friends,
Iâve been scouring my Content Manager on Notion for the past 2 hours, determined to find something to share with you that isnât the clichĂ© New Year Resolution content.
Thankfully, I stumbled across this post by one of my favorite authors, James Clear that I read almost a year ago.
James came out with a theory that :-
In your health, your work, and your life, it doesnât require a massive effort to achieve incredible results â just a consistent one.
đïžââïžHealth
If you were to show up at the gym once a month and spend the entire day running the rack on every single dumbbell and machine in sight (maximum speed) , you probably wonât really move the needle at all.
However, if you were to hit the gym 5 days a week and focus on a particular muscle group everyday (average speed), youâll be sure to see gains within the year.
đšâđ Work (Studies)
It is always tempting to glamourize maximum speed, pulling all-nighters occasionally to cram for a test.
But you and I both know that we'd be far more effective and efficient if instead we focused on our average speed - getting in a little bit of revision in everyday.
𧏠Life
In the past year (oops, fell into the clichĂ©), Iâve found that my self-confidence increased by magnitudes simply because I start making sure I make good on the promises I made to myself.
This is something that we all probably intuitively know to be true. Iâve certainly written about the power of consistency and have tried to apply it to my own life over the years.
In the new year, thinking of it as average speed vs maximum speed will be helpful when it comes to talking myself into getting out of bed and going to the gym, or into practicing my ukulele, or preparing for my exams.
With that said, I hope my this 'speed' concept, which I find incredibly amusing and am hence sharing with you today adds value to your life in some shape, way, or form.
Have a great week ahead and see you in the next issue of Sunday Scoop!

â Article - In Pete Souzaâs Obama : An Intimate Portrait, he shares a story of an elite Army Ranger, Cory Remsburg. It was incredibly moving and it gave me a distinct perspective what true resiliency looked like. Read more about Cory in this article by NYMagâs Intelligencer.
Challenge
Start paying attention to your average speed.
It is well and good to give yourself a pat on the back on days that you reach your maximum speed but prioritize your average speed over the long run.
